Mold and bacteria remediation experts discuss the challenges of maintaining indoor air quality at a recent IAQA roundtable.
At a recent Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) roundtable, Certified Industrial Hygienist Tom Peter, Vice President of Insurance Restoration Specialists, Inc., joined three other industry experts to discuss the challenges of mold and bacteria remediation projects.
Peter was joined by air quality consultants and mold remediation contractors from RK Environmental, Partner Engineering & Science, Inc., AirWays Environmental Service, and Price Health and Safety, and other experts in testing and remediation.
The danger of mold and bacteria on indoor air quality, and the care required during remediation, was a central theme of the day. In high-risk environments, where ill, elderly or young people are at risk like healthcare facilities or schools, mold and bacteria remediation requires extreme care and additional precautions.
During the event, Peter and Brian Nemetz, CMC, Technical Director of Industrial Hygiene at Partner Engineering & Science, Inc., discussed the difficulties of mold remediation in schools. Often these types of projects are more complex than they appear, from both an execution perspective and in terms of compliance requirements.
Says Peter, “In situations like this, it’s extremely beneficial to the client organization to have a strong team including both an indoor air quality consultant and a certified mold remediation contractor. It’s the most efficient means to a safe, clean facility environment.”
The IAQA membership is comprised of industry professionals and organizations who solve indoor environmental problems for commercial, industrial, municipal and residential clients. They offer professional education, and provide important indoor air quality resources for professional and consumers alike.
“The NJ Trenton Chapter of the IAQA has high-caliber consultants and remediation contractors in its membership,” says Peter. “Roundtable discussions like these are excellent forums for sharing with and learning from our peers to advance critical skills in the remediation industry.”
